Route 66 - Act 5: Hex City
Opening
The session opens on Kate and Moki driving away from the forest motel for the next few days. They drive through different environments, eventually seeing what looks like a small city in the distance.
Thankful to find what seems like civilization, Moki drives to the town, a set of railway tracks mark the entrance. As soon as they cross the tracks, a train appears, blocking their exit. No matter how long time passes, the train keeps moving.
They head deeper into the city and find a place to park. The truck breaks down after they park. Stepping out of the truck, they see people who seem to have been here for a while, with ragged clothes. They're lined up to get their daily food rations. Kate and Moki join them and talk to the person in front of them, asking about this place and how to leave.
The man in front of them tells them they can't. The train never stops, and everything inside begins to decay. They also notice that the people here used to be able to use magic, but no longer seem to be able to.
The Creature
The ground shakes as loud thundering footsteps approach where everyone was gathered. The residents ran to hide in a nearby parking structure, they call to Kate and Moki to join them. The pair run and hide with the rest.
The creature is revealed to be a giant frog-like creature. The residents have seen it before, it often comes in search of people to eat. Kate and Moki successfully evade detection from the creature, but hear sounds coming from within the creature, a kind of gurgling, as if someone was recently eaten.
Kate sneaks to the top of the structure for a better view of the area and Moki sneaks out to the creature in an attempt to attack it from behind. While she makes it to the creature un-detected, she doesn't quite hit hard enough to breach its skin. It turns around and Moki asks it why it's here. It responds that it was paid to be here.
The monster keels over in pain, whatever is inside it seems to be fighting its way out. In one moment, the creature is keeling over, the next, a cat-like woman with round glasses and a black leather jacket bursts out, killing the creature. The woman introduces herself as Katrina, and comments on the dreams she's had. Similarly to Kate and Moki, she saw dreams of events from their past, including the Bass Pro Shop.
The Cat-Like Woman
Almost immediately after seeing Kate and Moki, the woman demands they come with her without explanation, that she was hired to get the two. She demands that Kate and Moki give her the shards of excalibur they have.
Initially the pair refuse, saying that they're the only connection they have to their friend, and that they cannot leave without him. Refusing to join her. Katrina only states that Kate and Moki have no idea what they're getting themselves into. She insists on Kate and Moki not staying, even if Skab may be in danger which further sets the pair on edge about her.
With some convincing with Katrina telling them that she needs the shards. Telling them once again that they're not ready. If they kept going and died, Skab wouldn't have a chance. Moki reluctantly gives her the shard she has, but refuses to give her the axe. Kate is unable to give her shard as her sword consumed it.
Moki is not enthused about this and is put on the defensive. She does not trust Katrina with how forceful she's being and how little information she's giving to them for her decisions.
